ULI Boston/New England Homeless to Housed - Dignity First Homeful Village TAP, Bangor Maine
November 19, 2024
Over the last few years of learning, researching, connecting, listening, and planning, Dignity First developed their mission to fill the void of profound and catastrophic loss of family which unhoused people have suffered.
The TAP seeks to advance a solutions model that is centered on homelessness as an issue of housing, with a clear sustainability-focused real estate solution. The Homeful Village project could have impacts reaching beyond Bangor, ME. It will help determine the feasibility of a concept that has been successful in other parts of the country, but has not been tested in New England. Development projects around the country using the Community First! model are primarily located in warmer climates, or in the case of projects located in climates more similar to that of New England, have focused on redevelopment of existing buildings rather than new construction. Demonstrating the feasibility of building a brand new tiny home village is an essential step in helping to promote this concept as an effective way to address the issue of homelessness in New England.
