ULI Report Makes Waves

It has been a very exciting month at ULI Boston/New England. The Urban Implications of Living with Water report that was launched last month has definitely struck a chord and captured imaginations across Greater Boston and across the country. As the Boston Globe editorial board stated  “Global warming might have seemed like no big deal when it merely threatened ecological catastrophe and the lives of millions. But when rising sea levels claim parking spots in Boston? Woah—this just got real.” They went on to say that by focusing the attention on sacrifices we will have to make as a city the report could help to shift the dialogue on climate change.

The goal of this project was to spark conversation and get people to think differently about our relationship with water as we increasingly begin to feel the impacts of climate change. In addition, participants hoped to identify solutions and strategies for the real estate industry by the real estate industry. We are proud to say we have accomplished both. From a front page Boston Globe article, a front page Metro article to TV interviews on FOX, CBS and NECN, radio interviews on WBUR and WBZ and numerous additional clippings, Boston is abuzz. The story got picked up by the BBC international and we estimate that in total, it has had over 3 million views. Not only that, some of the ideas from the project have already been incorporated into the developments in Revere and the Innovation District.

Please check out the press we have received and, if you are interested in joining the conversation, contact Rebecca Herst at rherst@uli.org.
