The panel discussion, moderated by Travis McCready of JLL, will dive into the topics of migration trends, public transportation, suburban flight, and the increase in Cambridge's global importance. Panelists include Cia Buckley of Dune Real Estate Partners and Tom O'Brien of HYM. To facilitate discussion and networking, this event will take place over a Zoom Meeting with breakout sessions.

    Thomas O'Brien

    Founding Partner, Managing Director, The HYM Investment Group, LLC

    Thomas N. O'Brien is the Founding Partner and Managing Director of The HYM Investment Group, LLC. HYM is currently leading the development of over eighteen (18) million square feet of mixed-use development in Greater Boston, including the following notable and complex projects: Bulfinch Crossing (Government Center Garage Redevelopment), Boston Landing, NorthPoint, and Suffolk Downs. Prior to HYM, O'Brien served as a Managing Partner for JPI, a national developer and owner of multifamily communities, and as a Managing Director in Boston and New York for Tishman Speyer, one of the world’s leading real estate firms. O'Brien also led the Boston Redevelopment Authority as its Director and Chief of Staff, overseeing the development of over 12 million Square Feet of projects in Boston, from 1994 to 2000. O'Brien has served as Chairman of The Greater Boston Real Estate Board and currently serves on the Board of the Taubman Center for State and Local Government at Harvard University and as Vice Chair of the Board of Overseers of The Anti-Defamation League of New England. In 2011, the Governor of Massachusetts appointed O’Brien to the Board of the Massachusetts Housing Finance Agency. In 2016, Mayor Martin J. Walsh appointed O’Brien to the Board of Trustees of the Rose F. Kennedy Greenway Conservancy. O’Brien is a graduate of Brown University and Suffolk University Law School, and is a member of the Massachusetts Bar.

    Cia Buckley Marakovits

    Chief Investment Officer, Partner, Managing Director and Member of the Investment Committee, Dune Real Estate Partners LP

    With a breadth of experience in finance, fund management, and real estate investing through multiple market cycles over a nearly 30 year career, Ms. Cia Buckley Marakovits is one of the most accomplished women in institutional real estate investing. Prior to joining Dune in 2007, Ms. Buckley Marakovits was the President of the U.S. Fund Business for JER Partners, an affiliate of the J.E. Robert Companies. Ms. Buckley Marakovits joined JER in 1997 and held a variety of positions there, including Chief Financial Officer, Head of Asset Management, Head of Acquisitions and President of the U.S. Fund Business. During her tenure at JER, Ms. Buckley Marakovits also served on the JER Global Investment Committee, the European Investment Committee, as well as the Investment Committee for the JRT public debt vehicle. Before joining JER, Ms. Buckley Marakovits spent nine years in the Real Estate Investment Banking Group at Bankers Trust, where she successfully sourced and managed a variety of assets, including distressed mortgage portfolios, operating company investments and structured debt investments. Ms. Buckley Marakovits is a member of the Urban Land Institute where she has served as a Trustee and a member of the Board of Directors and Treasurer of the ULI Foundation. She is Former Chair and current member of the Investment Committee for ULI and ULIF and active in the Women’s Leadership Initiative at ULI. Ms. Buckley Marakovits is a member of the Pension Real Estate Association, serves as a member of Columbia Business School’s MBA Real Estate Program Advisory Board and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Samuel Zell and Robert Lurie Real Estate Center at the Wharton School. She is a also a member of Women Executives in Real Estate (“WX”). Ms. Buckley Marakovits is a Trustee of Phillips Exeter Academy and Collegiate School.
