Please join us on November 9th to hear from Sandi Silk, of Jefferson Apartment Group. Sandi is leading the development team for the assemblage of properties in Malden Center, currently under construction to be redeveloped into over 500,000 sf of mixed-use retail, residential and office space.

Jefferson Apartment Group is transforming Malden Center, correcting a planning ‘wrong’ of the 1970’s and firmly establishing Malden Center as a 21st Century TOD neighborhood.  In collaboration with the City of Malden, JAG is redeveloping Malden Center’s gateway which was once home to Malden’s City Hall and Police Station.  When delivered in 2019, Malden may have the country’s first residential/retail/civic mixed-use project. The project will bring 320 new market-rate residences, 23,500 sf of new retail and dining opportunities, a 50,000 sf office condominium – home to Malden’s new, modern City Hall, and a mix of private residential and public parking to Malden Center.  What makes the project even more interesting is that the developer and the City worked closely together to leverage the Commonwealth’s Housing Development Incentive Program (HDIP), designed to create market-rate housing in Gateway Cities, to make the project a reality, overcoming financial challenges and creatively adding value for everyone.

Sandi Silk , Senior Vice President, Development Partner, Jefferson Apartment Group

As Senior Vice President and Development Partner for Jefferson Apartment Group, Sandi’s responsibilities include sourcing, permitting and executing all residential development projects in the Boston market.  Prior to Malden Center, she acted as Director of Development for Federal Realty Investments Trust’s Assembly Row project in Somerville and has worked in multifamily development for JPI and Archstone and for Harbor Properties in Seattle.  She also has experience in historic resource and recreational planning for the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation.  To date, Sandi has been directly involved in the development and construction of more than 1500 multifamily units in the Boston area including Archstone Boston Common and Archstone (now Avalon) North Point as well as Jefferson at Admiral’s Hill, Chelsea and Arlington 360 in Arlington.  She currently oversees more than 500 units in development and has experience with permitting and developing projects in multiple jurisdictions including Boston, Cambridge, Somerville and Malden.  She earned a Master of Urban Planning and a Master in Business Administration at the University of Washington in Seattle and received a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies and Public Policy from Boston University.  She currently serves on the Advisory Council of the ULI Boston District Council and has co-chaired the Urban Plan Program for the ULI Boston District Council for several years.
