Join us on March 15th to hear from Michael Barelli of New England Development discuss Allston Yards. The development will create a new, mixed-use, transit-oriented neighborhood at the nexus of Allston, Brighton, and the new Boston Landing district.  The project will provide and build upon several key infrastructure investments: extension and expansion of the street grid through the site, new connections to the Boston Landing MBTA commuter rail station, improved pedestrian and bicycle connections, and the creation of new pedestrian-scale, publicly-accessible open spaces.

All of this will transform a unique site – currently occupied by an older shopping plaza and large surface parking lots – into a new neighborhood.  The proposed redevelopment – on the site of an existing 10.6-acre retail center at 60 Everett Street – consists of residential, office, a flagship Stop & Shop, as well as other ground-floor retail, restaurant, and fitness uses. A proposed one-acre community green will be activated with diverse programming, such as outdoor health and wellness events, public art exhibits, music concerts, and holiday festivals.

Stop & Shop and New England Development, as Master Developer, are working in partnership with The Bozzuto Group and Southside Investment Partners. Elkus Manfredi Architects is the Master Planner, and Stantec is the Architect for the project’s initial phase.

Michael is responsible for managing the development of Allston Yards, and coordinating planning among the project’s partners.  He is responsible for all aspects of the project’s entitlement, programming, design, and execution.  At New England Development, Michael has successfully managed the development of 2 of the company’s 5 outlet centers – Outlets of Little Rock and Outlets of Des Moines – and leads the company’s residential and mixed-use development efforts in the City of Boston.

Michael has 17 years of experience in real estate entitlements, management, and development for large-scale, regionally-significant projects.  Prior to joining New England Development, he worked in New York for Forest City Ratner Companies, where he managed the development of Ridge Hill, a 1.3 Million SF lifestyle center on 81 acres in Yonkers, NY.  He also spent several years in real estate roles at LAZ Parking and Central Parking System, and began his career as a transportation engineer at Sam Schwartz Engineering in New York.
