UrbanPlan Volunteer Training
What is UrbanPlan?
UrbanPlan is a realistic, engaging, and academically challenging classroom-based, Web-supported program in which students learn the roles, issues, trade-offs, and economics involved in urban development. It provides our future voters, neighbors, community leaders, public officials, and land use professionals with a hands-on experience in developing realistic land use solutions to vexing urban growth challenges.
The goal is to help develop a more educated citizenry, and facilitate a more sophisticated level of discourse and debate, so that the students – as future business people, policy makers, citizens, and voters – can work together to make the best decisions for creating and sustaining the best possible communities. UrbanPlan volunteer trainings occur once per year. Trainees are required to spend 4-6 hours reviewing the UrbanPlan curriculum and additional materials prior to the training. After completing the training, volunteers can commit to as few as three hours of volunteer time a year – although most of our volunteers are eager to spend as much time in the classroom as possible! Following training, volunteers are eligible to work with students from area high schools as well as college students at the undergraduate and graduate level. Volunteers from ULI Boston are currently working with students from seven schools in Boston, Cambridge, Brookline, Newton, and Bedford.
2017 Volunteer Training will take place on Friday, September 22 from 8 am – 4 pm at Boston College’s Stokes Hall. Training is T accessible and on-site parking is available.
In order to participate, you must be a ULI member by the date of the training.
Volunteers are asked to register so we can track participation.
Register below to participate in this year’s training on Friday, September 22nd from 8:00am-4:00pm. New volunteers must commit to attending the full training and should set aside 3-4 hours for pre-training prep. Upon registering, you will receive an email from Eliza Daeschler with all the necessary pre-training materials.
