Sustainable Portland by 2030! How Do We Get There?
Thursday, January 15, 2009
Portland Society of Architects and The Urban Land Institute presented a forum to identify and discuss strategies for achieving a sustainable Portland.
By 2030 Portland can have:
• A significantly reduced carbon footprint
• A diversity of business and industrial sectors
• Neighborhoods, commercial districts and a waterfront adapted to changing climate, new forms of transportation, mixed uses and higher densities
• A civic culture that encourages innovation, flexibility and adaptation in planning, design and the use of public resources
Many groups are examining the 21st Century challenges that face Portland: Transportation, Land Use, Historic Preservation, Energy Use, the Waterfront and Economic Development. This forum will be the first in a series of meetings that brings these diverse interests together to plan for the City's future.
